A COLLABORATION WITH MARK HIX TO COMMEMORATE THE 10th ANNIVERSARY OF HIX RESTAURANTS

Salcombe Gin, the luxury spirit which embodies an adventurous lifestyle on and around the water, is to release the second gin from its Salcombe Gin Voyager Series on the 12th SeptemberDeveloped in collaboration with celebrated chef, restaurateur and food writer Mark Hix MBE, this Salcombe Gin Voyager Series release will be named ‘Mischief’ after one of the famous Salcombe Fruit Schooners built in 1856.

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of HIX Restaurants, Mark Hix and the distilling team at Salcombe Gin have brought together their combined expertise in balancing and perfecting flavours and aromas to create an exceptional gin with 10 hand selected botanicals, each picked to add a distinct layer of flavour and aroma. With provenance central to Mark’s culinary offering, the gin has a traditional juniper background, combined with classic culinary combinations of orange, bay and cardamom. Wild fennel flowers foraged from the shoreline in Salcombe and samphire add a distinct coastal aroma and mild floral anise note. This Salcombe Gin Voyager Series release is the second of a collection of limited-edition gins developed in collaboration with world-renowned chefs or iconic winemakers, each of which reflect their individual personality and style - the first of the series created in partnership with Michael Caines MBE and named ‘Arabella’ after another of the 18th century Salcombe Fruit Schooners.

Mark commented, “I chose to work with Salcombe Gin to create a handcrafted traditional London Dry gin to commemorate our 10th anniversary, because I believe that they create truly world class gins, well-balanced in flavour and exceptional in taste. Having grown up in West Bay, Bridport, a seaside town on the Dorset coast, I also feel a connection with the brand and their love of refreshing coastal flavours and use of foraged ingredients. Together we have used the finest local and regional produce to create a gin to be enjoyed at HIX restaurants, at home or even on the water.”

The liquid has a strong backbone of traditional juniper, English coriander seed and angelica root, combined with the classic combinations of bay leaf, fresh orange peel and green cardamom. Wild fennel flowers, foraged from the Salcombe shoreline have been added, together with samphire and sea buckthorn to create an exceptionally smooth gin, with fresh floral notes on the nose and a long finish with a subtle anise note. This well-balanced yet full bodied gin is distinct and complex and can be enjoyed with a premium tonic water, in classic cocktails or even as a sipping gin served simply over ice with an orange peel twist.

Each batch of the multi-award winning Salcombe Gin is distilled on Provident, a 450l bespoke copper pot still which stands proud behind glass doors at the distillery for all to see whilst enjoying a ‘Salcombe & Tonic’ in their tasting bar which also overlooks the Salcombe estuary.
