Black Tor Brewery of Christow in Dartmoor National Park raised a glass of its popular Blonde 3.8%abv with local MP Mel Stride at the seat of Government recently, as the week’s guest ale in the Strangers’ Bar, sited inside the House of Commons.
The refreshing hoppy blonde beer, which is brewed with Rakau hops from New Zealand for subtle stone fruit and tropical flavours, and dry-hopped with Cascade hops from the US imparting citrus aromas, was enjoyed by the many MPs and other parliamentarians for whom the Strangers’ Bar is effectively their ‘local’, and was also enjoyed by model Jodie Kidd who was receiving The Beer Drinker of The Year Award from The All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group . Head brewer and director Jonathon Crump made the journey up to London to share a pint with Mr Stride.
Jonathon Crump said, “We were delighted that Blonde was selected for the Strangers’ Bar, the second time one of our beers has been served after our Pride of Dartmoor amber ale was a guest ale in 2017, and grateful to Mel Stride and the team at the bar for making it happen. We’re very proud of our beers and this was a great opportunity to spread the word about them and fly the flag for Devon food and drink.”
Blonde was made available in the Strangers’ Bar as part of a scheme run by the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group and the Society of Independent Brewers, to which Black Tor Brewery belongs. Black Tor will be back in London in August at The Great British Beer Festival where therir Blonde 3.88% abv, Raven 4.2% abv and Dunkelweizen 4.7% abv will be served at the UK’s largest beer festival with over 1000 beers.
The All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group organises meetings, receptions, briefings and other activities for around 400 supportive MPs and Peers. Its purpose is to promote understanding amongst Parliamentarians of the UK beer and pubs industries. The Group is supported by around 70 individual brewing and pub companies and by SIBA. An officially registered all-party parliamentary group, the Group is one of the largest industry groups at Westminster.
