The Broadwindsor Craft and Design Centre is situated in the heart of West Dorset’s beautiful rolling countryside. Redundant farm buildings on the edge of the village were the starting point in 1986 for this unique venture. Today, the Craft Centre is renowned for its excellence and quality.
The Centre underwent a major transformation in 2002 when an extension was built from locally quarried stone. This allowed the additions of two further rooms in the main gift shop, including a dedicated toy room. The main shop gallery was also opened at this time displaying pictures, lighting, fireside tools, fire guards and log baskets.
The Craft Centre is owned by Colin and Sarah Williams. Sarah was born to a farming family in the village and worked in the restaurant at the Craft Centre as a Saturday girl for many years. Today, it is very much a family run business, with the emphasis on a friendly, welcoming atmosphere to create an enjoyable experience.
Charlie and Zuzana Deuchar are the minds behind Bayards Kitchen at The Shops at Dartington. They bring lots of ideas from the award-winning Bayards Cove Inn in Dartmouth which they have been successfully running for four years. They offer great food and drinks in an informal but contemporary environment with a focus on local produce. Open for breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea and with a dedicated children’s area, Bayards Kitchen is a great place for all the family to enjoy.
For chocolate lovers everywhere. Café au Chocolat is a friendly, independent coffee shop which specialises in homemade chocolates. We serve speciality coffees, teas, milkshakes, light lunches and cakes. We also have a range of deliciously indulgent, hot chocolate treats to tantalise the taste buds.
We established Café au Chocolat in March 2015, enabling us to combine our passion for chocolate and coffee into a unique business in the heart of the local community. In 2017 one of our chocolate bars won the coveted 2* Great Taste Award from the Guild of Fine Foods. Following this we opened our chocolate shop, 'Chocolat' next door to the café with support from EU LEADER funding. Although not originally from the area we first met in Gloucestershire and have been frequent visitors for the last 25 years. In Tewkesbury we have found a fantastic community with truly wonderful customers and are delighted to have chosen here to launch our business.
We look forward to welcoming you into our Café to browse or indulge in one of the many treats on offer.
At Cafe Gorge we use the best of the West Country to produce fresh lunches and afternoon snacks.

Our friendly staff are always willing to help you with anything you need, even guessing the type of bird or advice on the best walks.
Cafe Gorge is fully licensed, so why not trade your normal Latte for a cold Scrumpy Cider or Local Ale!
We welcome all - tired cyclists, muddy walkers and well behaved dogs! We are easy to access with a ramp for chairs, prams and bikes.
