This year's Christmas Market will run from Thursday 15th November until Sunday 16th December organised by Exeter Cathedral.
The market support local businesses and performers, with an exciting mix of continental and local, independent traders, showcasing the best of festive food, crafts and gifts. The west front bandstand showcases local bands, carol singers and choirs able to bid for free slots to entertain traders and customers. This year promises to be better than ever with great entertainment on stage, more stalls for local businesses and another drinks outlet where visitors can buy mulled wine, mulled cider and last year’s popular mulled apple gin.
The event opens at 6pm on Thursday 15th November. The Cathedral Market will then be open every day up to and including Sunday 16 December.
This year the Cathedral is also running two competitions. The first gives singers and musicians the chance to star themselves with a slot in the Market’s bandstand. Local bands, singers and choirs are invited to send in video clips of themselves to firstname.lastname@example.org to be given a chance to play in the bandstand during the market. And the Cathedral will also host a social media photography competition alongside a live “tweet up” during the popular #ExeterHour. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the Cathedral on the night between 6.30pm and 9pm to take photos for social media, with the winner to get £100 in vouchers to spend at the Market.
The Market will be followed two days later by the switch on of the city’s Christmas lights.
- Monday to Wednesday the market will be open between 10am and 7pm (bars will be open until 7.15pm).
- Thursday to Saturday the market will be open between 10am and 9pm (bars will be open until 9.15pm).
- On Sunday the market will be open between 11am and 5pm.
