As a female farmer, Charlotte Jakins, co-owner of Moostone Meats in Devon, is a huge supporter of Great British Beef Week. The campaign has been established by the ‘ladies in beef’ organisation to promote the versatility of beef and encourage people to eat it as part of a balanced diet.  Great British Beef Week takes place from 21st to 27th April 2013.

Moostone Meats - GOLD AWARD WINNER in the farm shop category of the Taste of the West Awards 2012 - prides itself on the quality, traceability and known provenance of the meat sold. The Red Ruby beef which they sell on-site at their farm shop is butchered from the animals which graze at the 500 acre National Trust owned New Barton farm in Wembury. Commenting on behalf of Moostone Meats, Charlotte Jakins says: “We produce some of the best beef in the world here in the UK. Great British Beef Week provides a fantastic opportunity to go out and buy beef from your local butcher or farm shop, cook it at home and taste the stunning, rich flavours.”

As well as being able to buy Moostone Meats’ Red Ruby beef direct from the farm shop you can also sample their beef in a number of leading West Country restaurants and pubs including The Foxhound Inn, Quay 33, Jolly Jacks and the Plymouth Aquarium.

Tim and Charlotte Jakins run New Barton Farm and own Moostone Meats. They are renowned locally for the care they take over the animals on the farm. They are also known for their on-premise butcher, Wayne Grice, who is one of the best in his trade. As well as ensuring you go away with the cut you require he is also an incredible source of information and will be able to answer any related question you choose to ask.

As well as the fore-mentioned Red Ruby beef, Moostone Meats also sell home bred lamb, free range pork and poultry, which is supplied by Creedy Carver at Merrifield farm in the on-site farm shop. Come and see for yourself. Enjoy the whole, friendly experience whilst taking in the spectacular coastal views overlooking the Mewstone. Meet the cows, talk to Wayne and discuss your menu with Charlotte at the Moostone Meats’ farm shop. Whilst there you can also buy from a fantastic array of culinary delights ranging from Bell & Loxton cold pressed rapeseed oil to a delicious selection of puddings, pies, preserves and cheeses all from the local area.
