Synonymous with quality and provenance, Andrew James is a third-generation Family Butchers who supply High End restaurants and hotels throughout the South of England and are now making that quality of meats available direct to the public. This brand new purpose-built butchers on Mid Devon Business Park in Willand, Cullompton will give the surrounding area a chance to experience high quality meats, pies and sausages with a focus on service and experience.
This will be a real family affair with Andrew being supported in the business by father Steve, sisters Amanda and Laura, brother-in-laws Luke and Tom, and a great team of Craft Butchers. Since starting the business in 2009 its grown rapidly and the opportunity to take on a large unit to create a retail butchers was one the family could not turn down.
“The butchers will be a celebration of quality meat where we will showcase premium regional meats, sausages, gourmet burgers, dry cure bacon, cooked meats, pies and pasties”, said Andrew. “We are particularly excited by the maturation room, a glass fronted room where customers will be able to see the meat being dry aged through a huge window behind the counter. This will also include a wall made entirely of a ton of Himalayan Sea Salt bricks which will temper, dehumidify and clean the air and aids the production of the finest quality of meats”
The ethos will be to sell the finest quality meats, everything they sell will either be made by them, such as premium sausages, gourmet burgers, dry cure bacon, cooked meats, pies and pasties or by companies they currently supply such as artisan charcuterie from Capreolous Foods in Dorset to whom they supply beef, lamb & pork for salamis and other dried meats, even gluten free Scotch Eggs from Westcountry Produce in Plymouth for whom they produce gluten free sausagemeat. This will enable them to maintain the highest levels of traceability and provenance across the range, something that is a core business philosophy.
The shop will also include The Bakehouse, a takeaway service where customers will be able to buy hot & cold sandwiches, pies and pasties, burgers and hot dogs all produced from meats prepared in house.
“I am really proud of the family, to think I started my career in the meat trade nearly 50 years ago as a butcher by riding a carrier bike for my mother and father and shall finish it doing what I really love, serving customers from behind the counter for my sons and daughters”, said Steve.
