Taste of the West launches a brand new online shop with OCADO - and immediately starts supplying the UK’s premier online supermarket with top quality West Country food and drink through its new commercial arm, Taste of the West International
Taste of the West, the West Country’s food and drink cooperative, is delighted to announce the launch of its new shop on Ocado, the online supermarket. Ocado.com/tasteofthewestcountry is the first regional shop of its kind, the result of the collaboration of food and drink producers across the West Country, orchestrated by Taste of the West.
Speciality and artisan products from across the West Country are now available to Ocado customers across the UK at the click of a mouse.
John Sheaves, CEO of Taste of the West said “I am delighted with this development. It has been a long time in the planning and effectively takes Taste of the West onto a new innovative marketing platform. The new OCADO account is the first account for our new commercial service, run from our commercial arm, Taste of the West International, and feeds directly into a buoyant online market”.
Taste of the West is joining the likes of Food & Drink Wales and A Taste of Ireland with its own online shop, Taste of the West Country. Over 50 product lines are now available online, rising to 150 product lines in the coming weeks - from quality West Country meat, charcuterie, traditional pasties and craft ales to delicious ice-cream, free range duck and quail eggs and the region’s famous West Country clotted cream. All food and drink featured in the shop is produced in the West Country and this is the first time such a dedicated range is available to customers across the UK in one place.
Under this initiative, Taste of the West is responsible for product placement to OCADO, developing the supply chain into OCADO from the West Country as well as marketing, promotions and account management. The new online shop within Ocado.com allows many West Country producers who have until now been restricted to selling locally in speciality shops, delis and farmers markets, to reach customers across the UK.
This is part of the new look commercial Taste of the West, which will run alongside the traditional Regional Food Group activities including the prestigious Awards Programme and trade development work. Under the new marketing initiative, the group is actively seeking out new markets, both domestic markets and international markets on behalf of the region.
As John Sheaves says ”in our 25th year, there is a real buzz and excitement about the group. The online market is strong with growth rates of 15-18% per year and with internet download speeds getting faster all the time, it made sense to invest in this particular market. And, while we search for more new markets for our members, we will be celebrating our own 25th anniversary when we hold our annual Awards ceremony in Exeter Cathedral in September which will certainly be an event to remember”.
